Career
Pronger was drafted by the Harford Whalers (Now Carolina Hurricanes) in the 1st round of the 1993 NHL entry draft. He played for the Whalers for 2 seasons before getting traded to the St Louis Blues for Brendan Shanahan.
He played for the Blues for 8 seasons and was the team captain from 1997 to 2003. During his long stay with the Blues, he appeared in 5 NHL All Star games and he became one of the best defencemen in the league.
In 2005 he got traded to the Edmonton Oilers for Eric Brewer, Jeff Woywitka and Doug Lynch. He helped the Oilers get to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006 but lost in game 7 to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Trade Heard 'Round The World
Soon after the loss to Carolina, Pronger asked to be traded away from Edmonton. According to the media, Pronger's wife Lauren wasn't happy in Edmonton but the Oilers GM Kevin Lowe simply stated that the request was due to 'personal reasons'. The controversy surrounding Pronger's trade request has led many to describe him as "Public Enemy No. 1" in Edmonton. Soon after his request was made Pronger was traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the Anaheim Ducks for young players Joffrey Lupul and Ladislav Smid, a 1st round pick in 2007, a conditional 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick in 2008.
Pronger was booed badly on his return to Edmonton in a Ducks jersey. The Ducks have two best NHL defencemen in Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer.
So far in his NHL career he has played 862 regular season games with 117 goals, 392 assists for 209 points and 1239 penalty minutes. In the post season he has played 109 games with 15 goals, 57 assists for 72 points and 236 penalty minutes.
