Career
Giguere was drafted by the Hartford Whalers (Now Carolina Hurricanes) in the 1st round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played 8 games for the Hartford Whalers before the franchise got relocated to Carolina and then he was traded to the Calgary Flames along with Andrew Cassels for Trevor Kidd and Gary Roberts.
He played 22 games for the Flames but spent most of his time in the minors with the Saint John Flames of the AHL. Then in the 2000-2001 season he was traded to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for a 2nd round draft pick and during that season he spent some time in the minors with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in the AHL.
In the 2001-2002 season he spent the whole season with the Ducks instead of not playing in the minors but the Ducks missed the playoffs that season.
The 2002-2003 is the season that put him on temap as one of the NHL's top net minders. He took the team all the way to the Stanley Cup finals but lost game 7 to the New Jersey Devils and he was awarded with the Conn Smythe Trophy for the most most valuable player in the playoffs.
Jiggy spent part of the 2004-05 season in Germany with the Hamburg Freezers in the DEL due to the NHL lockout. During the lockout JSG also had surgery in an attempt to repair injuries that had plagued him for much of the 03/04 season. He returned to the NHL for 2005-2006 season, after very little post-surgery recovery and conditioning time (He could not even walk without crutches in June of 2005).
The Ducks made it to the 2005/2006 playoffs but Giguere missed most of the playoffs when he was again injured in game 1 of the 1st round. Back up goalie Ilya Bryzgalov took over while Giguere recovered. JS Giguere returned towards the end of the playoffs before being beaten by the Edmonton Oilers in game 5 of the Western Conference Final.
The 2006/2007 was the year when Giguere's dream of 2003 was finally realized... Backstopping the first team in California history to win the Stanley Cup with a 4 game to 1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on June 6th, 2007.
